Essential Phone: an optional 3.5 mm jack and an optional update to Oreo
Andy Rubin and his team have answered many questions about the Essential Phone, revealing the arrival of various accessories, including one dedicated to audio, as well as an approximate date for the upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo.
A part of the Essential team, founded by Andy Rubin, one of the creators of Android, organized an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit. This Q & A session provided an opportunity to learn more about the future of the Essential Phone.
Accessories of Essential Phone:
The Essential Phone has connectors on its back, allowing it to add a 360 ° camera to the phone. Like the MotoMods of Lenovo Motorola, a line of accessories should see the light in the long term. The first will be a charging dock, but Essential also promises "a premium audio accessory" featuring a 3.5 mm jack.
The team also came back on the absence of port jack on the Essential Phone, explaining that to integrate one would have asked too many concessions, that it is at the level of the design (less borderlesss screen or a dedicated "bump"), or at the battery (this should be 10% less to give way to the component of the wired headsets).
Android 8.0 Oreo:
Those wondering if the Essential Phone will receive Oreo can rejoice. The modular smartphone will actually be updated to the latest version of the Android system within two months. Updates may be made by then, or later, to improve the quality of the camera and its dedicated application. In particular, the team planned to introduce a manual mode.
