Huawei’s 2017 Flagship, Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro

Today, Huawei has officially unveiled the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Design.

Mate 10 Design and Display:

Kicking off with the design, Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro have an 18:9 aspect ratio “FullView” display.

In simple words, Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro have “bezel-less” displays just like other 2017 flagship devices. There are no rounded corners on the Mate 10 & Mate 10 Pro.
Huawei used a mixture of 3D glass and metal in these phones. They have curved back, which really helps to hole the phone easily despite having a large screen.
Huawei Mate 10 has a 5.99 inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) IPS LCD while the Mate 10 Pro features 6.0 inch Full HD (2160 x 1080) OLED screen. Also, the brightness can go from 1.8 nits up to 730 nits. Both phones support HDR 10.
Huawei added water and dust resistance to the Mate phones this time. The Mate 10 has IP 53 rating while the Pro has an IP 67 rating which is same as the iPhone 8.
Another major difference between these two devices is the fingerprint sensor. The sensor on Mate 10 is on the front whereas the Mate 10 Pro’s sensor is on the back. The unlocking time of these phones is 0.33s according to Huawei.
Unfortunately, Huawei has removed the headphone jack from the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro.

Mate 10 Internals and Storage:

Under the hood, Huawei has included an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 970 chip in the Mate phones. The difference between Kirin 970 and Kirin 960 is the Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

Just like Google Pixel 2, Kirin 970 use machine learning to learn user behavior then predict what your actions are and allocate resources accordingly. RAM and storage options for the Mate 10 range from 4/64 GB, 6/128 GB and 6/256 GB.  The Mate 10 Pro on the other hand, features 6/64 GB, 6/128 GB and 6/256 GB RAM and storage.

Mate 10 Software:

Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will come with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 skin. Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 pro have a PC mode as well just like Samsung Dex,. Split Screen mode also introduced in EMUI 8.0.
Additionally Huawei has hyped the two phones as the world’s first 4.5G smartphones.

Mate 10 Camera and Battery:

In camera section, Huawei used Summilux-H 1/1.6 Leica lenses. The Mate 10 duo has 12 MP RGB + 20MP Monochrome sensors with an f/1.6 aperture. The device features dual ISPs with better low light performance, according to Huawei. In addition they have a Dual LED flash, OIS and a hybrid PDAF + Laser autofocus.

Mate 10 is 30% better battery performer compared to Mate 9. The phones have 4,000 mAh battery. Huawei also said that these are the first safe fast charge devices which are certified by TUV Rheinland. Additionally, these phones are also capable of wireless charging support with fast charging off course. These new generations of Mate devices can charge up to 58% in 30 minutes.
Mate 10 Price and Availability:
At the moment Huawei hasn’t announced the prices for the two phones however they did announce availability. You can get your hands on these devices by mid-November.
