Qualcomm introduced QCC5100 Bluetooth chip in CES 2018

Qualcomm took advantage of the CES 2018 and present its new QCC5100 chip which is dedicated to Bluetooth audio. The company already presented Snapdragon 845 and Snapdragon 636 at the end of 2017.

Qualcomm QCC5100 chip is designed to equip tomorrow's Bluetooth audio accessories, such as headsets or speakers. It is equipped with a Bluetooth radio a class D headphone driver which is 192 kHZ / 24-bit codec with active noise reduction technology and aptX HD technologies.
But the big news about this chip is its energy consumption. The QC5100 promises to consume up to 65% less energy than the previous generations. These numbers are almost third times more than the regular Bluetooth devices.

One thing is for sure, Bluetooth headsets like the Bose QC35 or the Sony WH-1000XM2 should love this new chip. Qualcomm says that this new chip has twice the processing compared to its predecessors which powers earbuds like Jabra's Sport Elite.  It would allow them to switch to 40 to 60 hours, and even more if their design adapted to optimize their consumption.

Thanks to Qualcomm, its 32-bit processor clocked at 80 MHz, coupled with a Kalimba DSP clocked at 120 MHz that can also be used by developers. The first heart can handle the Bluetooth connection, when the second can handle the data from various sensors.

Qualcomm believes that this solution will be particularly useful for fitness helmets such as the Samsung Gear IconX. In connection with this, it is fully compatible with True Wireless technology. In addition, it directly integrates RAM and ROM storage and supports flash storage memory. The integrated active noise reduction is also a big advantage.

Qualcomm expects this chip could catch an eye from the helmet manufacturers particularly the sports helmets which could also equipped with personal assistant like Google Assistant.
